Extreme heat causing some Chicago area school districts to make adjustments

CHICAGO — Some school districts across Chicagoland are changing up plans for students and athletes to keep them safe as dangerous temperatures entire the area.Some of those accomodations includes changing practice times.Starting Tuesday morning, Glenbard South High School's football teams will practice before school at 5:30 a.m. The school will also let players practice indoors to keep students out of the heat.Some districts have even charged their start of the school year. The start was postponed due to the facts that classrooms do not have air conditioning. CHICAGO — A shooting followed by a police chase led to a SWAT standoff on the city's South Side.The incident started around 10 p.m. Monday near 91st and Ellis in the Burnside neighborhood. Police said officers witnessed at least three suspects shooting at a vehicle, and then fled the scene. Officers were able to arrest two of the suspects.Police believe a third suspect ran into a nearby home in the 9100 block of South Ellis. (NEXSTAR) – A pilot with United Airlines is currently on leave after footage of him chopping at a parking lot gate with an ax went viral last week.Kenneth Henderson Jones, 63, allegedly gave the gate a series of whacks after hitting his “breaking point” while waiting to exit an employee parking area at the Denver International Airport, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a report shared with the Associated Press.Jones told deputies he became upset after seeing multiple cars backed up behind all three of the lot’s exit lanes, the AP reported. (KTLA) -- Passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines flight that landed at California's John Wayne Airport late Sunday evening had to deplane on the taxiway after the plane sustained damage to its landing gear.The flight landed at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana around 11:30 p.m., and the crew of the Boeing 737 reported issues with the plane's landing gear as it was taxiing to the gate. MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WJZY) – One person was killed and another injured in an apparent explosion overnight that leveled a multimillion-dollar home in North Carolina owned by NFL cornerback Caleb Farley, said emergency officials.Authorities confirmed with Nexstar's WJZY that both victims were male. The system currently has 45 mph sustained winds and is racing west/northwest at 18 mph. Harold made landfall shortly before 10 am along Padre Island, south of Corpus Christi with 50 mph sustained winds.Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the Texas coast from Port O'Connor southward to the mouth of the Rio Grande.
