DeMar DeRozan embraces balance as a playmaker to fuel improved Chicago Bulls offense: ‘I just read whatever the game gives me’

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:08:41 GMT

Ahead of DeMar DeRozan’s first shoot-around with the San Antonio Spurs in 2018, coach Gregg Popovich introduced his team’s newest player as a point guard.DeRozan’s face isn’t one that conceals surprise, so he’s certain Popovich saw the way he balked at the introduction. Up until that point, DeRozan had seen himself as one type of player: a scorer. He wasn’t even a guard half the time, sometimes slotting into the small forward position for the Raptors. But Popovich delivered the new title with a smile. It was a challenge: Figure it out, kid.DeRozan never fully transitioned into a point guard in San Antonio. But over his three years under Popovich, he underwent a transformation. His average scoring dropped a point or two. His average assists leaped, topping out at 6.9 per game in 2020-21.As a result, DeRozan felt he became a more complete player.“Up to that point, I had such a score, score, score mentality,” DeRozan told the Tribune. Towns, Edwards dominate as Minnesota blasts Indiana

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:08:41 GMT

Indiana outplayed Minnesota in every sense in the first half of Saturday’s bout at Target Center. The Pacers outworked and outexecuted the Timberwolves. And yet, Minnesota led 57-55 at the break. How? Because the Timberwolves have Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, and the Pacers do not.Towns scored 14 points in the first quarter and Edwards poured in 18 in the second to lift an otherwise lethargic Wolves offense. They kept the boat afloat long enough for the rest of the team to show up to the party in the second half as the Wolves won 127-109.As has often been the case this season, the team as a whole turned on the afterburners in the third frame, and the rest was history. The Wolves (19-5) outscored Indiana 38-23 in the third frame. From there, the game was essentially an exhibition. One that was highlighted by Towns and Edwards, who flexed their offensive muscles through various methods of domination.Towns attacked in the post and in the mid-range. After a slow start, Ed...

California workers who smoke weed will have new protections in 2024

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:08:41 GMT

California employees will soon officially have protections from discrimination based on their use of cannabis or marijuana while off the clock and away from the workplace. The new protections come from an amendment to California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (AB 2188) which was approved by Governor Gavin Newsom on Sept. 18, 2022, and goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2024. The bill makes it unlawful for an employer to not hire, penalize, or terminate a person based on their use of cannabis products outside of work. Can you fly with marijuana in your carry-on luggage? Although California was the first state to legalize medical marijuana in 1996 and became one of the first to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in 2016, AB 2188 is the first law in the Golden State to specifically provide workplace protections for employees who use it for either reason.
