A deeper look at Minnesota United’s unbeaten start to 2023

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:55:34 GMT

The start to Minnesota United’s 2023 season has been good, and in some cases really good, but not great. The Loons (3-0-2) are off to their best start in the franchise’s MLS era, so any critique might be considered nit-picky. But a look at the underlying numbers and context show a team near some narrow margins — yet one often coming out ahead.Minnesota has averaged 2.2 points per match, a blistering early pace that puts them fourth in the Western Conference and in line for a home match in the MLS Cup Playoffs. To begin April, they topped previously perfect expansion side St. Louis City 1-0 in Missouri last Saturday.Minnesota’s middle three opponents — the New York Red Bulls, Colorado Rapids and Vancouver Whitecaps — have a combined two wins in 18 total matches. In March, the Loons gave up two leads a...

But there’s a key difference between the proposals: The House version calls for $194 million to get the line started, whereas the Senate version calls for $50 million. The amount in the current Senat...
